Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh reached full household electrification and total tap water coverage this week. Chief Minister Pema Khandu confirmed the milestone on Saturday. The state government finished rolling out utility access to every local home.
Data shows a sharp rise in infrastructure. In 2016, only 1.48 lakh households had power, covering 49 percent of the state. That number jumped to 3.02 lakh by 2026. The water gap closed even faster. Only 22,796 households had functional taps in 2016. Today, that count stands at 2,28,566. This marks a 903 percent increase in water access over a decade.
Khandu shared the update via social media. He touted the success of these welfare initiatives. "Over the past 10 years, Arunachal Pradesh has made a big difference in two basic needs, electricity and drinking water," Khandu said. He recently presented a full ten-year progress report to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The report details the state's transformation. It documents gains in economic growth and connectivity. Officials also noted rising per-capita income and stronger revenue generation. Development remains the top priority. The state focused heavily on integrating remote border areas into the grid.

While the state celebrated its utility gains, a separate conflict emerged regarding the border. Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao pressed the government to take local warnings about Chinese activity along the Line of Actual Control seriously. The concerns center on allegations from the Nah Welfare Society regarding People's Liberation Army movement near the Taksing area of the Upper Subansiri district.
The Indian Army rejected the claims of an incursion as unsubstantiated and incorrect. Chief Minister Pema Khandu stated he intends to speak with both the locals who raised the alarm and defense officials. Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed it tracks all border developments with high priority to maintain peace.
