Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh forest officials issued a public alert following a potential tiger sighting on August 24. A witness spotted a large carnivore along LB Road between Longding Town and Longsom village. The Longding Forest Range received a verbal report at 7:15 pm that evening. Staff reached the site quickly to investigate the tracks and environment.
The department could not definitively label the creature a tiger. "Owing to the dry ground conditions and absence of sufficiently clear and conclusive evidence, the identity of the animal could not be confirmed as a tiger at this stage," the agency stated. Officials noted that signs at the scene did confirm the presence of a member of the large cat family.
Authorities told locals to stay away from dense vegetation and forest edges, especially during dawn, dusk, and night hours. Residents should avoid traveling alone in isolated areas. The department warned that people must keep children, the elderly, and livestock away from the forest fringe. Do not chase, provoke, or attempt to film any wild animal you encounter. If you see one, move to a safe spot slowly and stay away.
Officials also warned against spreading rumors or unverified media online. This behavior creates needless panic among the public. Report any new signs like pugmarks, scratch marks, or livestock attacks to the Longding Forest Range Office immediately. Updates will follow once staff verify the identity and movement of the animal through better field evidence.
