Itanagar: Security forces captured a suspected NSCN-K (Ang Mai) insurgent in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. The arrest happened in the Votnu area of Longding district. A joint team of the Assam Rifles, the Army, and Arunachal Pradesh Police swooped in after receiving specific intelligence tips regarding the fighter's location.
The suspect claims the rank of self-styled lieutenant within the insurgent outfit. During the search, troops recovered a 7.65 mm pistol, one magazine, and six live rounds of ammunition. "The operation demonstrated coordinated efforts among the Assam Rifles, Army and state police in counter-insurgency operations in the region," officials stated.
Authorities handed the man and his seized gear over to the local police for processing. Officials have not yet released the man's name or the specific charges he faces. The mission highlights ongoing attempts to choke out insurgent activity across eastern Arunachal Pradesh.

Security officials identified the suspect as 30-year-old Pigang Gangsa, a resident of Votnu village. His arrest is part of a broader push by security forces to combat rampant extortion and kidnapping in the Tirap-Longding-Changlang region.
