Itanagar: Techi Doria etched his name into the record books this week. The Arunachal Pradesh batsman became the first player from his state to score 150 runs in a single Ranji Trophy innings. He hammered 160 off 292 balls against Manipur during their Plate Group match in Ahmedabad. The contest took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground B from October 26 to 29.
Doria dominated the crease. He smashed 17 fours and four sixes to anchor his team. This performance marks a massive step for cricket in the region. The state team now prepares for their next clash against Mizoram on November 2.
The veteran cricketer is no stranger to breaking barriers. In September 2018, he became the first Arunachalee to score a century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. During that match against Sikkim at the Moti Bagh Stadium in Vadodara, he struck 122 off 149 balls to lead his side to a 306-run total and a 49-run victory. Reports from that time noted he was the first cricketer from the Northeast to hit that mark.
Doria has expanded his footprint far beyond domestic Indian leagues. In 2024, he became the first cricketer from Arunachal Pradesh to ink a contract with the Wolverhampton Cricket Club in England. He competed in the Birmingham and District Premier League and previously represented the North East Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
He also gives back to the game. He started the Doria Cricket Academy in 2016, providing free coaching to young hopefuls in the state. Reflecting on his role in the sport, Doria said, "Doria’s latest innings against Manipur adds another landmark to a career that has helped raise the profile of Arunachal Pradesh cricket."
