Union Minister Margherita Slams Congress Opposition to Arunachal Electoral Roll Revision

Itanagar: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita blasted the Congress party on October 29 for obstructing the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. He accused the opposition of turning a routine administrative task into a political circus. Speaking at the BJP headquarters in Itanagar alongside MLA Mutchu Mithi, Margherita defended the integrity of the process under the campaign banner, "Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy."

The minister noted that the verification process led to a 22 per cent reduction in electoral roll entries. These removals involved deceased voters, people who moved away, duplicate registrations, and individuals whose whereabouts remained unknown. Margherita insisted that past Congress-led administrations conducted similar revisions. He challenged the party to prove their grievances through legal channels instead of sowing public confusion.

Margherita targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming the party undermines democratic institutions after suffering electoral defeats. He stated, "The Election Commission should be allowed to discharge its constitutional responsibilities while ensuring that genuine grievances are addressed in accordance with the law."

The minister praised the residents of Arunachal Pradesh, civil society groups, political representatives, and Booth Level Officers for their cooperation. He urged citizens to check their records to avoid losing voting rights due to clerical errors. The BJP remains focused on transparency. The party wants clean voter lists.
