Itanagar: The BJP Mahila Morcha hit the streets of Itanagar today. Joined by Itanagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Likha Nari Tadar, the group staged a protest at the state BJP headquarters. They targeted the Congress leadership over the recent dismissal of Inner Manipur MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam from his teaching post at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
JNU fired Akoijam after an inquiry into complaints from 11 female students. The charges against the professor involve inappropriate remarks and claims he offered higher grades for sexual favors. Akoijam denies the accusations. He calls his termination a "witch hunt" and disputes whether officials followed due process.
Protesters directed their anger at Rahul Gandhi. They blasted the Congress leader for his silence on the matter and challenged his frequent public rhetoric regarding women's rights. Tadar accused the party of hypocrisy, noting the contrast between Gandhi's calls to fight patriarchy and the party's failure to address allegations against one of its own members.
This demonstration mirrors ongoing heat in New Delhi. Groups including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad have been calling for accountability from Congress leadership. BJP activists in Arunachal Pradesh want immediate answers regarding the party's stance on the scandal.
