Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu wants answers. He scheduled a sit-down with the ABK Youth Wing and the Adi Students' Union for October 13. The meeting takes place at his office in Niti Vihar, Itanagar. Officials confirmed the session aims to address fears surrounding the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project.

Pressure mounted after a joint press conference at the Pasighat Press Club on October 3. Leaders from the two organizations demanded that officials address community grievances before the project moves forward. The proposed dam on the Siang river remains a massive bet for the state. It promises hydropower, water management, and stronger strategic positioning. Yet, locals worry about the fallout.

Villagers fear the project will ruin their land, livelihoods, and existing settlements. They also cite deep concerns over the local environment. According to an official notice, the Chief Minister's Office expects the presidents of both the ABKYW and AdiSU Apex to show up with their delegations. "The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the two organisations to present their concerns directly to the chief minister and seek clarification on issues related to the proposed project," officials said. The state asked the groups to submit names of all representatives in advance to manage the seating.
