Itanagar: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju wants to grow Arunachal Pradesh University. The current 106-acre campus cannot handle future student needs. He spoke at the Vande Mataram @150 event on Thursday. Rijiju urged local lawmakers to send expansion plans to his office and the state government immediately.
He expects the Centre and state to back new teaching and learning infrastructure. "A university cannot grow in a congested space. The present 106 acres is not sufficient for Arunachal Pradesh University," Rijiju said. He also pushed for a long-term strategy for the campus, stating, "We should plan the university with a vision for the next 100 years."
Rijiju opened the new main gate and student exhibition stalls. He also planted trees during his visit. The minister promised to prioritize a four-point request from the school. This list includes building three hostels, starting a Tribal Heritage Museum, securing a reliable water supply, and researching minority communities in Northeast India.
The three-day event runs through Friday. The Department of Mass Communication and the Union Ministry of Culture organized the celebration to mark 150 years of Vande Mataram. The program included a seminar, cultural shows, and a book release. On the topic of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, the minister promised to respect local opinions. He vowed the government would not force projects on affected communities.
