Kohima: Forty-five members of the National People’s Party in Nagaland have quit. Former Media Secretary Y Amen announced the departures on October 10. The group includes 28 state office-bearers, executive committee members, and primary members. Dimapur district lost 11 National People’s Youth Front members. Another six office-bearers left in Mon district.
The leavers claim they can no longer work under the party banner in good conscience. However, the youth wing disputes the fallout. NPYF Nagaland president Yabang Imchen and general secretary Neil Verma labeled the collapse narrative misleading. They claim the youth wing remains functional and intact.
The youth wing challenged the validity of the resignation document. They noted one signatory has been out of the state for three months. Imchen and Verma called for independent checks before treating any signature as official. They stated, "The organisation also raised questions over the authenticity of a resignation document being circulated."
The NPYF blamed the unrest on poor communication. They cited a slow response from the national leadership in Shillong. A lack of consultation regarding the formation of an Interim Committee stoked the fires. The youth leaders now demand the party address worker grievances instead of pushing a narrative of total destruction.
