Itanagar: Security forces arrested two suspected ULFA-I cadres in Arunachal Pradesh on September 29. The operation stopped a planned ambush and IED attack along the Miao-Vijaynagar road. Assam Rifles worked with Changlang and Tinsukia police to catch the men. They acted on intelligence about the impending strike.

Authorities identified the detainees as SS Lance Corporal Sahdev Rai, also known as Bappi Akhom or Bappi Asom, and SS Private Siraju Alam, also known as Shiraj Asom. Soldiers found an AK-series rifle, three magazines, 90 live rounds, and an improvised explosive device during the arrest. The suspects admitted they belonged to a larger unit of nearly 20 armed militants. This group included members from both ULFA-I and the NSCN (K-YA) faction.

The Miao-Vijaynagar road is a major route through Changlang district and Namdapha. It sits on the path of the proposed Kharsang-Miao-Vijaynagar Frontier Highway, known as NH-913. Forces remain in the area. Search and combing operations are continuing in the area to locate the other suspected insurgents, officials said.

Military leaders stated the operation prevented a violent attack on personnel and civilians. Interrogations may expose the network and operational methods of the insurgent group. Assam Rifles confirmed the arrest proves their intelligence-led strategy effectively maintains security in the region.
