GSU Demands Halt to Williamnagar Hospital Doctor Transfer

Shillong: The GSU Eastern Zone wants the Health and Family Welfare Department to rethink the transfer of Dr. Vince Chimpoo M. Momin. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist is moving from Williamnagar Civil Hospital to Baghmara Civil Hospital. GSU president Goera R. Sangma filed the plea on August 28 through the East Garo Hills District Medical and Health Officer.

Dr. Momin brought advanced surgical care to the hospital. Patients no longer need to travel to Tura for these procedures. Local families worry that his absence will force poor residents to seek expensive care outside the district. They want the government to ensure service quality remains high.

The union says it has no issue with Dr. Chibambe Ivory Sangma, the Junior Specialist arriving to replace Momin. The goal is maintaining high-level care. The union memorandum noted, "The public is seeking clarity on the reasons behind the transfer, particularly as Dr. Momin has been providing important specialised surgical services in the district."

The GSU wants answers. Residents fear for their medical future. Administrative moves must not break the current standard of care.
