Shillong: Surgeons at Williamnagar Civil Hospital in Meghalaya pulled a 15-kg ovarian tumor from a 45-year-old patient. The high-stakes procedure stands as a first for the medical facility. It was a massive success.
The patient suffered from a pre-existing cardiac condition. This forced the medical team to perform the surgery using only epidural anaesthesia. The operation tested the staff. They pulled it off.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma praised the team on Monday, September 14. He highlighted their collective skill and grit in a post on X. "A remarkable milestone at Williamnagar Civil Hosp. A 15-kg ovarian tumour was successfully removed from a 45 yr old patient despite a pre-existing cardiac condition," Sangma said. The state leader noted that the event proves the high quality of care currently available at the hospital.
