Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma kicked off a massive infrastructure push in East Garo Hills today. He marked the district's Golden Jubilee by inaugurating new road works and laying foundations for police and housing facilities. The upgrades signal a major commitment to regional connectivity and safety.
Road projects totaling 24.39 km cost 47.60 crore. These include widened stretches on the Rongrenggre-Simsanggre-Nengkhra Road and upgraded internal routes in Williamnagar. Workers also finished interlocking concrete-block roads and the Rongongre Bridge on the Chekwebira-Rongbing Boldak road. These routes promise better access to local services.
Sangma expanded the state's reach into security and housing. He broke ground on the Commandant's Office for the 5th Battalion, Meghalaya Police at Samanda to help officers manage counter-insurgency and disaster response duties. Additionally, he greenlit 3.60 crore worth of rental units for middle-income residents.
The Chief Minister emphasized that these projects bring vital change to the district after 50 years. "Reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening infrastructure, creating opportunities and ensuring that development reaches communities across East Garo Hills," Sangma said. His focus remains on building lasting assets for the local population.
