Shillong: Surgeons at Williamnagar Civil Hospital extracted a 15-kilogram ovarian tumour from a 45-year-old patient. The procedure took place in East Garo Hills. It was a massive growth.
The surgery carried immense risk. The woman already suffered from a pre-existing cardiac condition. This created a high surgical and anaesthetic challenge for the staff. The multi-disciplinary team managed several complications during the operation to safely remove the mass. The patient is currently recovering well.
Meghalaya Health officials praised the medical staff for the successful surgery. They described the procedure as a “remarkable milestone” for public healthcare in the region. The state noted that the result highlights the high level of expertise and critical care available at district facilities.
