Agartala: Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital will perform two additional kidney transplants on October 5 and 6, 2026. These surgeries bring the total count at the state facility to 11. Nine procedures are already finished. Chief Minister Manik Saha led the push to bring these surgeries in-house. Patients no longer need to leave Tripura for care.
The next two patients are 54 and 42 years old. Surgeons from GBP Hospital and Manipur’s Shija Hospital and Research Institute will handle the operations. Doctors are finishing pre-transplant evaluations and medical checks on all donors and recipients now. The department keeps a strict watch on safety. An Authorisation Committee reviews every case to ensure compliance with medical laws. They only clear a surgery after checking donor and recipient compatibility.
Tripura started this medical program on July 8, 2024. Success arrived quickly. The hospital finished the eighth and ninth transplants on July 14 and 15, 2026. State officials hope the program keeps growing. "The continued kidney transplant programme is expected to further benefit patients suffering from kidney-related ailments in Tripura and reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for such specialised treatment," the Health Department said in a recent press release.
