Agartala: Women are the dominant voting bloc in Tripura’s upcoming civic elections. State Election Commission records show 3,22,360 women against 3,08,983 men, plus 45 third-gender voters. This puts the gender ratio at 1,043 women for every 1,000 men. Total enrollment stands at 6,31,388 voters.

Women lead the numbers in 19 of the 21 urban local bodies. Only the Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat and Melaghar Municipal Council in Sepahijala district report more men than women, trailing by 147 and 119 respectively. The Agartala Municipal Corporation hosts the largest group of voters with 1,85,099 women, 177,487 men, and 36 third-gender individuals.

The SEC is prepping for elections to be held by December. These polls cover the Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils, and seven Nagar Panchayats. Officials have designated 783 polling stations across these regions, with 439 located in Agartala alone. The 21 bodies serve roughly nine lakh people across eight districts.

SEC Secretary Anurag Sen confirmed the timeline for finalizing the lists. "The SEC has invited claims and objections to the draft rolls until October 8, after which the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 15," Sen said. Preparations remain underway as the commission eyes the end-of-year deadline.
