ICC reprimands West Indies duo Powell and Rutherford

Shillong: The ICC hit West Indies cricketers Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford with official reprimands following Friday’s second T20 International against India in Ranchi. Each player also picked up one demerit point for their first offenses within a two-year window.

Powell violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for abusing cricket equipment. He smacked the ball with his bat after Mayank Yadav sent him packing in the sixth over. Rutherford faced discipline for showing dissent under Article 2.8. During the 13th over, he screamed at the umpire after a ball he pegged as a wide was ruled a fair delivery.

Both players copped to the charges and accepted the penalties from match referee Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Bhatt noted that because the pair admitted their faults, there was no "need for formal hearings."
