Shillong: Cricket West Indies named its squads for the upcoming tour of India, set to run from September 27 to October 18 across eight cities. John Campbell returns to the ODI lineup after healing a hamstring injury that sidelined him during the New Zealand series.
Injury hits the squad hard. Ackeem Auguste remains in rehab after August surgery, so Jewel Andrew takes his spot in the batting order. Shimron Hetmyer gets more time to recover from the Caribbean Premier League, skipping the ODIs to join for the T20Is. Jason Holder sits this one out.
Coach Daren Sammy keeps his eyes on the future. The team will face India in three ODIs and five T20Is. The first two ODIs conclude the automatic qualification cycle for the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup, though the team must still compete in the qualifying tournament next year.
Sammy remains optimistic about the high-stakes test. "Playing against the top team in the world presents us with a chance to fine tune and improve our performances as an ODI team which has seen quality performances across the cycle," Sammy said.
The squad leaves the Caribbean on September 21. They touch down in Thiruvananthapuram on September 23. The T20I roster emphasizes long-term development for the 2028 World Cup. Quentin Sampson joins the T20I side, returning to India after appearing in the earlier T20 World Cup.
