Imphal: Rajkumari Lanchenbi Chanu secured a spot in the history books. She grabbed India's first-ever Wushu medal at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar. The young athlete from Manipur stood on the podium with a bronze after a competitive performance.
She aimed higher. Mistakes during her routine kept her from the gold or silver. She remains focused on her next trip to the international stage to improve her standing. "I thought I would win the gold or silver. I made some mistakes, which is why I got the bronze medal. Next time, I will do my best and bring home the gold medal," she said.
The journey started early. She began training in gymnastics back in 2017. A switch to Wushu, the Chinese martial art combining combat and athletics, happened in 2021. She feels good about the result. She credits her success to those around her. "I am very excited because I won a bronze medal at the first Wushu Youth Olympic Games in 2026. I want to dedicate this to my coaches and my family because they give me a lot of motivation and support," she stated.
