Agartala: West Tripura authorities hit the brakes on high-volume sound systems and DJ boxes. Officials banned the noise in crowded areas for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations. The district administration handed down the directives on October 12 at a meeting inside Hall No. 1 of Prajna Bhavan. District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, and Traffic Superintendent Kanta Jangir led the talks with local clubs and puja committees.
Kumar demanded organizers keep the celebration orderly. He cited a tragic case in Pune where excessive noise reportedly triggered a fatal heart attack in a child. "The administration had issued guidelines to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees and visitors," Kumar stated. Organizers must now provide alternative power backups or emergency lights capable of running for four to five hours. Officials also want volunteers in visible gear to help crowds.
Security requirements grew tighter. Each club must install at least two or three CCTV cameras to monitor pandal interiors and gates. Organizers have to post police and municipal helpline numbers at all entrances and exits. Larger committees must also keep ambulances with temporary drivers on standby during the five-to-six-day peak period. Signs in fluorescent orange or light green must clearly mark all routes.
Traffic restrictions start soon. Kanta Jangir announced a no-entry zone from October 17 through October 21 between 5 pm and 1 am. Residents need valid passes to travel during these hours. Jangir warned against blocking roads with sand or bricks. Police report no complaints regarding extortion for subscriptions so far, and they expect a smooth, secure holiday season across the district.
