Barpeta Health Teams Fight Monsoon Mosquito Outbreaks

Guwahati: The National Centre for Vector-Borne Disease Control hit the ground running in Barpeta on Saturday. Teams moved into vulnerable char areas to block malaria, dengue, and Japanese Encephalitis. The effort targeted Kodamtola, Dharmapur, Choyshiman, and Bhatnapaiti. Mosquitoes thrive in this weather.

Health workers sprayed larvicide and blasted Malathion fog across the villages. They also impregnated bed nets with insecticide and passed out leaflets. They checked locals for fever to catch early cases. The department remains on high alert. Officials pushed for residents to drain stagnant water and keep their surroundings clean. They want locals to wear long clothes and sleep under treated nets. The District Health Department stated, "The District Health Department said it will continue to strengthen surveillance, vector control measures and public awareness campaigns across vulnerable areas to reduce the burden of vector-borne diseases and safeguard public health in Barpeta district."

Villagers are now expected to join the fight. Early detection remains the primary goal. The department will keep the pressure on until the monsoon threats subside.
