Itanagar: Health authorities in the Itanagar Capital Region issued a dengue alert Saturday following a sharp rise in sudden-onset fever cases. District Medical Officer Dr. C. Lowang Mallo wants residents to act fast. Seek medical help immediately if symptoms surface.
Dengue produces an acute febrile illness that sticks around for two to seven days. Watch for headaches, body pain, joint pain, skin rashes, and pain behind the eyes. Do not ignore these warning signs.
Eliminate stagnant water around homes to stop mosquitoes from breeding. Clean water tanks and coolers regularly. Keep storage containers covered. The health department recommends using mosquito nets, repellents, and window screens. Wear full-sleeved clothing to block bites.
The advisory warns against self-medication during the outbreak. "It specifically warned against taking aspirin, ibuprofen or steroids without medical advice." Always get a proper diagnosis from a doctor instead of guessing the cure. Officials remain on high alert as they track the spread of the virus in the capital.
