Kohima: Health officials gathered at the Bhandari Town Hall on July 30 to push back against rising illness. The session ran under the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme theme, Fight the Bite, Defeat Vector Borne Diseases. Local leadership wants action. Extra Assistant Commissioner Kilangtemsu praised the joint effort between the medical department and the district administration to clean up the area and stop the spread of infection.
Kilangtemsu stated, "The medical department, with the support of the district administration, has remained active for prevention of vector borne diseases in the sub-division by initiating localised steps in creating public awareness and organising social works to maintain sanitation, clean environment and public health safety."
Dr. Imnapokim, the State Programme Officer for the NVBDCP in Kohima, detailed the risks of malaria, dengue, and Japanese encephalitis. He warned that the local climate in Bhandari creates the perfect conditions for mosquitoes to breed. He demanded that residents step up and take responsibility for their health, specifically by using the government-issued anti-mosquito gear correctly.
The event also covered preventative medicine. Dr. Imkongtemsu Longchar, Joint Director, highlighted that the Human Papillomavirus vaccine is a key tool to stop cervical cancer and ensure a healthy future for young girls. Dental Surgeon Dr. Lichamo K. Tungoe of CHC Bhandari chaired the meeting. A wide range of locals attended, including members of the Bhandari Town Council, Bhandari Town Lotha Hoho, Eloe Hoho Bhandari, village heads, church leaders, and various health workers.
