Kohima: Mon district officials and community leaders met September 10 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to plot a war against vector-borne diseases. The meeting followed a four-day field sweep across Mon by the state National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme team.
State experts visited Tizit PHC, Shangsha HWC, Longting, Tuimei HWC, Longlam, Tammong, Laokun, Phomching PHC, Longshen SC, Longwa SC, T/Chingha HWC, Aboi CHC, Chenwetnyu SC, the District Hospital, and UPHC. Dr Imnapokim, Dr Imkongtemsu Longchar, and Dr Kavito Zhimomi led the assessment. They brought along consultants, an insect collector, and a data entry operator to gauge the threat.
District VBD Consultant N Nokman presented data on local case trends. He demanded tighter surveillance and faster responses. Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak insisted that health officials cannot win this fight alone. He told the assembly, "Tackling VBDs could not be left to the health department alone." Konyak wants ward leaders and school children to hunt down mosquito breeding sites.
Dr Imnapokim announced a new larvivorous fish hatchery at Tizit PHC to kill larvae. Meanwhile, Dr Imkongtemsu Longchar pushed for new Japanese Encephalitis vaccines to combat recent outbreaks. The team also addressed community anxieties over fogging, DDT supplies, and drainage issues. Chief Medical Officer Dr Supongmenla Walking chaired the meeting, while Dr Cheyale Kath and Shingong MTS managed the opening and closing formalities. The state team wrapped up the visit with a final strategy session to plug gaps in current case management.
