Kohima: Zunheboto district officials met Friday at the Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall to tackle a persistent financial gap. Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj and Lead District Manager J M Soren led the District Consultative Committee meeting. They scrutinized the current state of banking, credit, and financial inclusion across the region. Officials reviewed the status of bank branches, ATMs, and Customer Service Points alongside the district credit-deposit ratio.
The meeting highlighted a critical service failure. Residents in Satoi and Suruhuto blocks have no direct access to banking facilities because no branches operate in these areas. The committee evaluated the impact of Government Sponsored Schemes, Kisan Credit Cards, and the status of Non-Performing Assets. They also examined the performance of Self Help Groups and the reach of social security programs like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
The committee called for urgent action to fix the banking deserts. Participants discussed expanding digital payments, improving currency management, and refining the Potential Linked Credit Plan. The group stressed the need for better coordination between banks and government departments. The objective is to ensure that financial services reach all citizens. As noted in the official proceedings, the committee focused on the "need to improve banking outreach and explore measures to extend banking services to the two unbanked blocks."
