Agartala: Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy officially launched an upgrade for the Tripura Sundari Subdivisional Hospital on Tuesday. The state sanctioned 43 crore for the project. Planners estimate the final bill to reach 70 crore to ensure the facility is fully equipped and modern. The move serves to anchor the government's wider overhaul of local healthcare delivery.

Singha Roy used the ceremony to revisit a 2012-13 attempt by the previous Left Front government to close the hospital after the Gomati District Hospital opened. The Minister recounted his failed plea to then Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to save the site. He said, "Today I am recalling the past because we should never forget it." According to the Minister, Sarkar dismissed the request as inappropriate at the time.

The Minister also slammed the prior administration for poor construction quality at the Gomati District Hospital. Structural flaws there are so deep that simple repairs cannot fix the building. The current government cleared more than 100 crore for the expansion of the Gomati facility, and the state has already floated tenders for the work.

Infrastructure spending has climbed sharply. The state budget for development rose from 3,000 crore under the previous regime to 8,000 crore over the last eight years. Singha Roy hailed this growth as a major milestone for Tripura.
