Agartala: Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha laid the foundation stone for the HP Ghosh Memorial Medical College today. The new 100-bed facility sits on 20 acres in the Lalchhari area of Ambassa. The site hosted the traditional Bhoomi Puja ceremony to mark the start of construction.

Saha addressed the crowd regarding the project. "We had promised to set up a medical college in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council area. That promise is now being fulfilled," he said. The HP Ghosh Memorial Foundation is leading the build. Chandrashekhar Ghosh, chairman of the Bandhan Group, and director Neelima Ghosh attended the event.

The facility aims to expand beyond Agartala. Officials expect the project to create 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. Plans for a future paramedical college are already in motion. The state government is also developing an Ayurvedic college in Tepania, Udaipur, and plans to establish a health university.

Saha pointed to recent economic gains. Tripura currently ranks second in the North-East for GSDP and per capita income. NITI Aayog now lists the state as a front-runner. Attendees included Dhalai Zila Parishad Sabhadhipati Sushmita Das, MLAs Manoj Kanti Deb, Shambhu Lal Chakma, Swapna Das Pal, Chittaranjan Debbarma, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, and District Magistrate Vivek HB.
