Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on October 7 that his government will hand over unused tea estate land to investors. The state faces a major land crunch, stalling industrial growth. Saha spoke at the opening of the Homoeopathic Medical College and Netaji Subhash Homeopathic Hospital at Ranter's Colony in West Tripura. Geography traps the state. Seventy percent of the land is reserved forest.
Investors pledged Rs 1.32 lakh crore during the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026. The government cannot find enough space to put these projects on the map. Saha stated, "We have decided to allot land to the potential investors in unused tea estates for establishing new ventures. It will help the state address the problem of ever-increasing demand for land."
Healthcare remains a massive priority. Tripura now runs three medical colleges with 500 total MBBS seats. The Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital already provide postgraduate training. A new private medical college offering 100 MBBS seats is under construction at Ambassa in the Dhalai district. Nursing, pharmacy, and paramedical schools continue to operate across the state. These additions mean residents no longer need to leave the state for basic care. Referral cases dropped significantly, and the government plans to cut them further.
