Agartala: Tripura will soon establish green corridors for ambulances. Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed the move on September 21 to bypass traffic congestion during emergencies. The state wants faster transit for the critically ill. Saha believes this will prevent unnecessary delays for patients in transit.
The announcement came during the opening of an 18-bed Intensive Care Unit and a Central Sterile Supply Department at the Government Medical College and GBP Hospital in Agartala. These new facilities cost roughly ₹13.5 crore to build. The unit splits capacity evenly with nine beds for men and nine for women. Saha stated, "The government was taking steps to strengthen emergency healthcare and improve ambulance services."
Government officials are pushing to keep patients in-state for specialized care. Referral numbers are dropping, but Saha intends to lower them further. Currently, nine super-specialty blocks run throughout Tripura. The state is also upgrading district and sub-divisional hospitals while expanding digital healthcare access.
Modern equipment and training for doctors remain a priority. GBP Hospital will soon see full 24-hour CCTV coverage for site security. Additionally, the government is moving to ensure steady stocks of essential generic medicines at every state healthcare facility.
