Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is pushing to expand organ transplant services across the state. He spoke at the 74th foundation day of the Unnayan Sangha club in Agartala, an event also attended by Mayor Dipak Majumder. The program featured a voluntary blood donation camp.
Dr. Saha touted the progress of the state healthcare system. Referral cases to hospitals in Kolkata and South India have plummeted by 80 percent. Medical infrastructure is growing alongside the number of medical colleges in the state. Kidneys are already being transplanted locally. The government now aims to start heart, liver, and eye transplant procedures.
The Chief Minister reflected on the past, noting that blood donation was once a paid service. He praised the current shift toward voluntary donations. "Voluntary blood donation is a noble thing," he said.
Dr. Saha also challenged community clubs to improve their civic contributions. He warned that clubs must remain neutral when helping resolve local disputes. Undue influence creates problems. While he acknowledged that clubs once caused violent feuds over territory, he noted that the current culture has shifted toward genuine social service.
