Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha conducted a surprise inspection of GB Pant Hospital on Monday. He scrutinized the facility's infrastructure, maintenance, and staffing levels. The hospital acts as the state's primary referral center. It handles the highest number of patients in Tripura.

Saha wants change. He pushed for a decentralized system that mirrors corporate efficiency. "We are trying to decentralise the whole healthcare delivery system and make sure that the government hospitals function in a corporate style," Saha told reporters after the walkthrough.

The government plans to move mother and child care services to a new unit at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The eye care unit will shift to a dedicated facility one kilometer from GB Pant Hospital. This new unit will remain under GB Pant's administrative control.

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte and other senior officials joined the inspection. Saha ordered his team to fix existing deficiencies quickly. He plans to meet with executive engineers from both GB Pant and IGM Hospital to clear out pending infrastructure bottlenecks. Renovations are currently underway in the medicine ward. The Chief Minister promised to return soon to check on the progress.
