Agartala: Tripura is hiring. Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman confirmed on August 28 that the state is filling 325 vacant teaching posts in government colleges. The announcement came in the Legislative Assembly following a query from CPI(M) MLA Asoke Chandra Mitra.
Vacancies include 243 spots in general degree colleges, 26 in professional colleges, 46 in technical colleges, and 10 in polytechnics. The Higher Education Department already asked the Tripura Public Service Commission to fill 201 Assistant Professor roles. The Commission finished the first round of interviews for 14 subjects and sent 74 names over. Officials expect to wrap up the second round of interviews soon. The state will issue job offers once the paperwork clears.
The Finance Department also cleared 200 new Assistant Professor posts for general degree colleges. "Regular appointments against these posts will be made after the Higher Education Department receives the recommendations from the Tripura Public Service Commission for the respective subjects," Barman said.
Work remains for other institutions. The government is currently rewriting Recruitment Rules to handle professional college vacancies. Officials also requested Finance Department approval to hire for five Assistant Professor roles at Government Music College. Meanwhile, the Tripura Institute of Technology is transitioning into the Tripura Government Technical University. Hiring there depends on meeting new infrastructure rules under the Technical University Act.
The state manages 41 colleges total. This includes 29 general degree colleges, five professional schools, six polytechnics, and one technical college. These schools serve 69,677 students with a current staff of 797 regular teachers.
