Agartala: Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman addressed the 65th State-Level Teachers Day Celebration 2026 on Saturday. The event took place at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala. Barman spoke to a packed room of educators and officials about the heavy burden teachers carry. He paid tribute to his own mentors. "The lessons and values imparted by my teachers remain etched in my memory even today," he said. He credited those early guides with molding his own character.
Technology dominates the modern classroom. Smartphones and artificial intelligence provide fast data, but Barman argued these tools lack soul. He warned that digital progress cannot replace human mentorship. Teachers do the hard work of building character and courage. The Minister urged students to look past job security. He wants them to seek knowledge that helps them create jobs for others.
Barman praised award winners for their honesty and grit. He also thanked the thousands of unnamed teachers working in silence. He challenged local institutions to stop acting like simple examination centers. He wants them to mirror the prestige of ancient hubs like Nalanda and Vikramshila. Schools must become centers for research and innovation.
Dr. Samit Roy Choudhury, Director of School Education, opened the ceremony with a speech on the legacy of teachers. Barman also opened a photo exhibit at the venue. It displayed the history of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and the department's recent wins. Officials including Animesh Debbarma, L. Darlong, and Anandhari Jamatia attended the event.
