Agartala: Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu opened the Namami Bharatam mass singing event this morning. The gathering marked the 150th anniversary of the national song at Agartala’s Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Town Hall. Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan, based in New Delhi, teamed up with Gandhigram’s Vidya Mandir to host the tribute. It drew a crowd of volunteers, students, and local dignitaries.
Nallu spoke to the audience about the song’s enduring power. He noted the historic weight of the lyrics beyond simple poetry. He stated, "Vande Mataram is not merely a song or poetry; it is a part of India's history, heritage and national identity." The song moved past regional, caste, and linguistic barriers over the last century and a half. It served as a vital call for freedom fighters and a driver of national awakening.
The Governor praised the work of Vidya Bharati Shiksha Samity in Tripura. He highlighted their efforts in teaching cultural values and service to young minds. Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debabrata Das joined the speakers on stage. Principal Dhruba Mondal opened the event with a welcome address, while Prof. Dr. Milan Rani Jamatia delivered the vote of thanks.
Management committee members Tandra Gan Chaudhury, Dr. Nilmoni Chakraborty, and Subhas Ganchaudhuri attended the ceremony. The event centered on a mass singing performance, uniting participants to celebrate 150 years of the anthem. The song remains a primary source of inspiration for generations across the country.
