Agartala: Tripura just became the first state in India to bring private B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. institutions under the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme for Scheduled Tribe students. Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma announced the change on Wednesday, July 22. It aims to stop administrative delays and tighten accountability for tribal pupils.
Debbarma met with Tribal Welfare Department officials and representatives from the private schools to prep for the 2026-27 academic session. They covered strict guidelines and institutional duties. The goal is to clear out bureaucratic hurdles. Students need support. The minister expects this move to grow higher education options for tribal youth across the state.
Officials believe this framework will force private colleges to maintain higher standards. By linking private institutions to the scholarship fund, the government hopes to fix gaps in current teacher training access. “This is not just about scholarships—it is about empowering tribal youth with quality education and building a stronger future for our communities,” Debbarma said.
This initiative focuses on human resource development and systemic reform. It creates a model for other states to follow. The government remains committed to its goal of full transparency. Better training leads to better results.
