Agartala: Tripura is set to open six new Eklavya Model Residential Schools by November. This expansion brings the total count of operational facilities in the state to 18. Tribal Welfare Director Subhasish Das confirmed that construction is finished, with only minor finishing work remaining on the campuses.
Staffing remains a priority. The National Education Society for Tribal Students, under the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, authorized the temporary transfer of teaching and non-teaching personnel from existing schools. Officials will conduct fresh recruitment later. Entrance exams are finished. "The entrance test for admission to the new EMRSs has already been completed," Das said.
The state also gained permission to hire construction agencies other than the Central Public Works Department. Costs are a factor. The Central Public Works Department estimates campus construction at over Rs 70 crore. The National Education Society for Tribal Students caps funding at Rs 50 crore per school. The Tripura Housing and Construction Board suggests a more affordable estimate of Rs 54 crore.
Funding is confirmed for two upcoming sites. The government received Rs 100 crore for campuses in Mungiakami, Khowai district, and Dasda, North Tripura district. Each site receives Rs 50 crore. Tripura will cover any construction costs exceeding that sanctioned amount.
