Agartala: Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma met with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tarunjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday, July 16. Debbarma asked for land to house students from his state. He wants to build two hostels in the national capital.

The minister submitted a formal letter to the Lieutenant Governor, who also chairs the Delhi Development Authority. He requested space for a 100-seater boys hostel and a 100-seater girls hostel. These facilities would serve Scheduled Tribe students from Tripura who move to the city for higher education.

Debbarma said the plan provides safe, cheap, and supportive housing. It aims to cut down on the hurdles faced by students from the state's remote regions. The minister believes this will let them finish their studies with dignity.

"The Government of Tripura remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing educational opportunities and ensuring the welfare of our tribal youth," Debbarma said. He added that the project should help tribal communities reach their potential through better living arrangements.

The minister expects the Delhi Development Authority to back the proposal. He hopes for a fast start to the construction. This project would support generations of students from Tripura.
