Agartala: Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma met with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tarunjit Singh Sandhu to request land for two new student hostels. Sandhu also chairs the Delhi Development Authority. Debbarma delivered a formal D.O. letter calling for a 100-seater boys' facility and a 100-seater girls' facility. Students from remote regions of Tripura need these homes.
The plan aims to provide safe, affordable housing for tribal scholars chasing higher education in the capital. The state government wants to cut down on the hurdles these students face when living away from home. Debbarma believes these residences will help students focus on their studies with dignity.
"The Government of Tripura remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing educational opportunities and ensuring the welfare of our tribal youth," Debbarma said. He expects the proposal will move forward quickly with the Lieutenant Governor’s backing. Debbarma noted the hostels fit into a larger plan to empower tribal communities by securing supportive living arrangements for those studying outside their home state.
