Agartala: The Tripura government held its first Higher Education Dialogue on Wednesday at the Sonar Tori State Guest House. Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman led the meeting, joined by Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma. They brought together student representatives from across the state to draft new policies. It was a historic meeting.
Barman wants colleges to stop acting like simple degree factories. He aims to turn them into hubs for nation-building. "This is not merely a government meeting. It is a platform for free and open interaction where students will speak and the government will listen carefully. The future course of higher education will be guided by the ideas that emerge from these discussions," Barman stated.
The group tackled several specific goals during the session. They discussed plans to boost higher education enrollment by 50 percent by the year 2030. Students pushed for more skill-based and employment-oriented programs. They also debated how to turn local colleges into model institutions while promoting nationalism and responsible citizenship. Collective participation is the current strategy.
Barman confirmed that these student suggestions will shape future government policy. He plans to host more sessions soon. Teachers and educationists will join the conversation next. The state wants to transform Tripura into a major education hub, aligning with the national Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
