Agartala: Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman wants to push Tripura's college enrollment rate from 22 percent to 75 percent by 2030. He linked this target to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of a developed nation during a session at the Maharaja Bir Bikram University administrative building this Thursday. The gathering, called Ucchasiksha Sanglap, focused on reshaping the state's academic future.
Barman emphasized that success requires more than just government mandates. It demands total buy-in from staff and students. "Our mission is clear. By 2030, Tripura must achieve 75 percent enrolment in higher education," he stated. He insisted that officials and teachers must work closer with the student body to improve infrastructure and resolve nagging local problems immediately.
The minister plans to turn four major Agartala institutions into model campuses by 2030. This group includes MBB University, MBB College, BBMC College, and the Law College. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder joined senior education officials at the meeting to map out the strategy. Barman wants students who use campus resources to have a direct say in future policies.
District-level meetings will soon follow to tackle site-specific hurdles without pushing every file to the ministry. Meanwhile, the new Technical University and Women's University have secured approval from the Assembly and Governor and will soon start taking students. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will decide the fate of the proposed Medical University. Barman says the state will prioritize local fixes to keep the expansion on track.
