Agartala: A government primary school in Tripura now struggles with a lopsided teacher-student ratio. Six teachers report to work daily to teach just six students at the West Gurupada Colony JB School. The school sits in the Longmahaty area within the TTAADC region of Jampuijala sub-division. It possesses full infrastructure but lacks the pupils to use it.
Enrollment numbers hit bottom. Classes II and III have no students at all. Attendance remains erratic, leaving classrooms empty on some days while only one student might show up on others. Teachers told reporters that the lack of pupils threatens the school's future. "The teachers highlighted the school's current condition and the challenges arising from the dwindling number of students."
Parents prefer private English-medium schools nearby. One private facility sits right next to the government building, and another operates just 200 metres away. Teachers claim the Jampuijala Inspector of Schools ignored repeated warnings regarding how these private competitors drain the student population. The authorities have taken no effective action to address the decline.
