Students Locked Out as Tripura School Remains Empty

Agartala: Shantaram Para SB School stayed locked Friday morning. The building in Harbang VC, Mandai block, sat empty well past its 8 a.m. opening time. By 11 a.m., no one had shown up to work. The school serves a remote village with few other options for families.

Locals say only two teachers are assigned to the school. They rarely show up, and classes happen even less often. When reporters cornered one teacher, the staffer could not explain the no-show. Parents are tired of the constant negligence.

Many families now pay for long trips to send their kids to distant schools. They refuse to rely on a broken system. One villager stated, "We cannot leave our children in a school where studies don't happen."

The Education Department faces growing pressure to fix the mess. Rural schools in Tripura suffer from a lack of oversight, crumbling infrastructure, and chronic teacher absenteeism. Activists warn that the gap between urban and village education standards will keep growing unless officials act fast.
