Agartala: Rebati Tripura is back in the classroom. The former Lok Sabha member resumed his position as a Post Graduate Teacher in Political Science at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School in Agartala. He held this role starting in 2001 before leaving for electoral politics in 2019.
He stepped back into the school following a seven-year break from the job. The former MP said he felt it was the right time to return after the 2024 parliamentary elections, the completion of party restructuring, and the TTAADC polls. A shortage of teachers at the grant-in-aid institution prompted his move. He noted the school operates under a management committee, which permits staff to engage in political work.
The return triggered rumors about his political future. Rebati dismissed claims that he quit politics. He maintains his seat on the BJP state core committee and works with the Janajati Morcha. "The immediate reason for ending his long leave was the shortage of teachers at the grant-in-aid school," he explained.
BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee backed the career shift. He stated the party has not sidelined the former official, noting that he continues to hold strategic responsibilities. Students and staff have welcomed his return to the school gates.
