Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha handed out appointment letters to 42 new medical officers on Tuesday. The event, held at Pragna Bhavan, marked another step in the state government's plan to overhaul its health system. Saha wants better services for everyone. He promised more training for medical staff and a massive push to bring primary care into remote corners of the state.
Bed capacity has surged from 727 to 1,413. Plans include adding another 100 beds soon. The state is rolling out super-speciality centers, critical care units, and evening clinics. During the ceremony, the Chief Minister confirmed that recruitment followed a strict merit-based process. He noted that the state requested 224 vacancies through the Tripura Public Service Commission, leading to 216 recommendations. Of those, 214 offers went out, 160 were accepted, and 152 doctors have already started work. He stated, "Recruitment was conducted purely on merit, without favouritism."
Dental care is getting a makeover too. Tripura has 123 sanctioned dental spots, though 49 remain empty. Plans are moving forward to launch DM and MCh super-speciality courses at AGMC and GB Pant Hospital by next year. Health Secretary Kiran Gitte noted that the School Health Programme now covers 125 schools for dental screenings. Meanwhile, the government pushes digital health records to speed up patient care.
Saha reported that the state provided direct jobs to 22,365 people while creating 26,228 more roles via outsourcing since 2018. He envisions Tripura as a medical hub housing everything from nursing schools to a dedicated Health University. Officials like Saju Vaheed A, Dr. Debasri Debbarma, and Dr. Amit Lal Goswami joined the Chief Minister at the training session to outline the state's aggressive growth strategy.
