Agartala: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha opened two new medical facilities in Agartala on Monday. He added an Intensive Care Unit to the Super Specialty Block and a Central Sterile Services Department at the AGMC and GBP Hospital. The new units aim to bolster critical care and improve sterilization protocols at the primary state referral center.
MLA Meena Rani Sarkar attended the event as a special guest. Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Kiran Gittey served as the guest of honor. Senior medical staff and various government officials watched the proceedings. The upgrades promise better patient management and advanced medical care standards.
Dr. Saha addressed the crowd during the ceremony. "The state government is committed to continuously expanding and modernising healthcare infrastructure while ensuring access to quality medical services for citizens," he said. The administration maintains that these projects reflect a broader plan to overhaul the facilities at GBP Hospital and strengthen the state health network.

The new ICU expansion packs 18 beds into the block, split evenly between nine male and nine female patients. This project, alongside the sterilisation department, cost the state approximately 13.5 crore rupees. Officials also confirmed that Agartala Government Medical College Principal Tapan Majumdar and GB Hospital Superintendent Bidhan Goswami joined the ceremony.
Saha laid out a wider agenda to bring government hospitals up to corporate standards to win back public trust. He pushed staff to adopt a more sympathetic bedside manner and promised that GBP Hospital will soon get full-time CCTV surveillance. To keep medication flowing, the administration is securing a steady supply of generic drugs across all facilities.
The government is moving to cut down on out-of-state medical referrals by expanding digital services and building up infrastructure at district hospitals. Work on a proposed state Health University is slated to start soon. Additionally, the state is mapping out green corridors to give ambulances a clear path through traffic during emergencies.
