Mizoram band Terat wins spot at Hornbill Music Festival

Aizawl: Mizoram band Terat beat 221 other acts to win the third edition of the Ticket to Hornbill contest. The group earned a coveted slot at the Hornbill Music Festival in Nagaland this December. The high-stakes finale took place at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.

Steel Falcon from Bengaluru claimed second place. Nchanter from Uttarakhand followed in third. Judges narrowed the field from 12 preliminary performers to five finalists. All three top bands will take the stage at Kisama near Kohima from December 1 to 10.

Organizers moved the event to Delhi for the first time to expand reach and cut costs. Theja Meru, chairman of the Task Force for Music and Arts, explained the shift. "The national capital was chosen to showcase the state’s music scene and provide better accessibility at lower costs," Meru said.

The Nagaland Tourism Department and TaFMA produced the event with backing from the Union Ministry of Tourism. Terat walked away with a Rs 10 lakh cash prize. Steel Falcon secured Rs 6 lakh, while Nchanter took home Rs 4 lakh. Casio India sponsored the main prizes. Furtados and Sennheiser provided an additional Rs 5 lakh for individual category winners.

Industry veterans Subir Malik, Arpito Gope, and Mayank Mittal served as judges. They evaluated the final talent pool under the spotlight in the nation's capital.
