Agartala: Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma claims the Northeast remains geographically isolated because of past government failures. He points to the partition of India and the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War as moments where New Delhi failed to secure vital territory. These missed chances left the region cut off.
Deb Barma insists that Tripura sought to merge specific parts of its former kingdom into India. He claims the Maharaja and Rajmata were ready to hand over these lands, but the Centre did not act. "At that time, the Government of India should have pushed for the inclusion of parts of the Kingdom of Tripura, which the Maharaja and the Rajmata were subsequently ready to merge with India," he said.
The Tipra Motha leader also cites the 1971 war as a wasted opening. India held 90,000 Pakistani soldiers prisoner after the conflict. He argues the government should have leveraged those captives to negotiate for better connectivity. That chance disappeared. He now questions why the national conversation ignores the East while focusing on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
