Agartala: The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) secured the Award of Excellence 2026 from the Central Electricity Authority. The agency handed out the hardware during a two-day national workshop in New Delhi on November 3 and 4. Tripura stood out alongside Assam and Sikkim. The workshop tackled the review and alignment of reliability data between distribution companies and the National Feeder Monitoring System.
Director of Technical services Dr. Subir Sen, AGM Shishir Debbarma, and DGM Jahar Debbarma accepted the honor for the state. Officials credit modern infrastructure and better tech-driven monitoring for the win. Tripura averages 23 hours and 7 minutes of daily power in rural areas. Urban zones hit 23 hours and 45 minutes, barring natural disasters. The state also kept the lights on without interruption throughout this year’s Durga Puja celebrations.
Data coordination between DISCOMs and the National Feeder Monitoring System tracks network efficiency and interruption durations. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath praised the staff for the feat. "The recognition reflects efforts to modernise power infrastructure, improve service quality and strengthen technology-driven monitoring of electricity distribution," officials said. Nath specifically highlighted the work of Power Department Secretary Abhishek Singh and TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu for their roles in upgrading these systems.
