Agartala: Tripura officials are stockpiling more than 400 megawatts of electricity to guarantee uninterrupted power during the Durga Puja festival. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced the plan on October 15, citing lessons learned from previous years to prevent outages. The state expects peak demand to hit between 400 MW and 410 MW.

Last year, the peak demand remained below 360 MW. Consumption numbers already fluctuate. Demand reached 346 MW at 5 pm on Wednesday, then dropped to 336 MW by 7 pm. Despite the local load, the state continues to export 72 MW of electricity to Bangladesh. "If the demand rises further, we have no problem. We have made all necessary arrangements," Nath stated.

The Power Department is moving to high alert. General managers and senior staff will pull 24-hour shifts throughout the festival. Crews are setting up a dedicated control room to handle any sudden emergency. The state also maintains access to additional power sources if local grids face a surge. Tripura has avoided major supply failures during the festival for the last three years.
