Agartala: Seven organizations representing surrendered militants halted their 72-hour strike on Saturday. The agitation ended on its second day after leaders met with West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar. The groups had organized the protest to force action on an 11-point charter of demands.
District officials agreed to meet most requests within existing legal frameworks. Dr. Kumar promised the administration would handle these matters on a strict timeline. "The rehabilitation committee of returnees called a 72-hour-long strike. We spoke to all the groups of the returnees. They had a set of demands, some of them are very crucial in the interest of the returnee beneficiaries," Dr. Kumar said.
The Magistrate credited Prasenjit Debbarma for leading the protest and facilitating the resolution. This breakthrough arrived shortly after Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha flew home from New Delhi. Dr. Saha had met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the unrest. The Chief Minister confirmed he ordered local officials to resolve the grievances immediately.
